2013 Nashville AIDS Walk

Sister Celia Lipps

On Saturday, October 5, 2013, local sneakers and heels made their way over the Korean Veterans Bridge and around LP Field when the people of Nashville, along with the Music City Sisters, walked to raise money for those living with or affected by HIV and/or AIDS. All walkers of life and on-looking tourists to the Music City noticed the powerful entrance of the veiled vibrants accenting the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge, asking for answers to the usual questions of the who, what, why variety. Who are you with? What are you doing downtown? Why are you wearing those heels in a 5k walk? “Can I have my picture with you?,” was the question most popular of all; even former Second Lady of the U.S. Tipper Gore had to have her picture with the sisters, a highlight of the morning indeed. With Ann passing out colorful, foam sticker hearts to the wide-eyed and curious little ones and the rest of us simply being the loving sisters our intentions led us to be, it was evident the crowd really appreciated the joyful response and presence of the MCS.

The walk couldn’t have began with a more appropriate soundtrack, Katrina and the Waves “Walking on Sunshine.” It was hot, but nothing could remove our glittery, painted smiles; not even what could have been a discouraging moment during the walk-a-thon when a runner, not apart of the Nashville Aids walk, screamed “Faggots” next to the sisters. Ann replied “You got it!” The group walked on in pride.

The walk progressed with beautiful weather and more photo opportunities throughout and ended back at River Front Park as 80’s pop-singer Tiffany took the stage and ticket winning opportunities approached if you took your picture with Cardboard Cut-out Cher. Overall, it was an entertaining and successful event. We exceeded our fund raising goal of $1,000 reaching over $1,200! Nashville Cares came out $10,000 below what was hoped for, but collected over $220,000 and is still taking donation through the month of October. Thank you to all who help MCS reach our fund-raising goal and who continue to make efforts in supporting our ministry and local community. It was a blessing to be apart of the Nashville Aids Walk 2013. Let’s do it again next year!

Sister Night for the Nashville AIDS Walk 2013

Sister Night October 3, 2013Your Music City Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence hosted an evening packed with information, talent, and entertainment. Sister Night at Canvas Lounge (1707 Church St, Nashville, Tennessee), started with a welcome from night’s the hostess, Sister Ann Wenita Morelove. Sister Ann then led those in attendance in a moment of silence for Coty Likens and his family.

St. middle (Mark Hubbard) followed with information regarding the latest news in HIV treatment and prevention. Later in the evening, Johnny Sells from Nashville CARES spoke to the crowd. Johnny was on hand during the event to give HIV testing for free.

Entertainers, including Veronica Electronica, Ivy St. James, Vanity, The C. Diving, and Harrison Knox, kept the crowd singing, laughing, and tipping! All tips and donations from the evening went to The Music City Sisters’ Nashville AIDS Walk Fund, which will take place at Riverfront Park in Nashville. Generous donations from the crowd amounted to $275, which helped the Sisters exceed their pledge goal for the Walk.

One would assume that everything described thus far would be enough, but this is Nashville! And Nashville has some singers; some very talented singers! Chris Mitchell, Vic Sorrell, and Scott Weaver took the stage and amazed the crowd with their vocal talent.

The night ended with what has become a Sister Night tradition, Eunice Bea Kidden and Pursefonee Ophelia Bitz lip-syncing to “Sisters.”

The Music City Sisters want to thank all those who shared their time and talent to make the night a wonderful evening. But especially, they would like to thank the Nashville LGBTQIA community. The Sisters love to make money, but they love to have fun with the community just as much!

Join them on the first Thursday in November when they host a little something on behalf of OutServe, an organization that benefits gays and lesbians serving in the military.
