faegalaSister Faegala first met the Music City Sisters on May 14, 2011 during the Atlanta Flaming Sugarbakers Exequatur Weekend. However, her relationship with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence predates that encounter. A native and long-time resident of San Fransisco, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were a part of her life, as she followed a path of activism during the formative era of HIV/AIDS and human rights awareness. During that time, and influenced by early trailblazers Sister Boom Boom, Sister Dana Van Iquity, and Sister Mysteria, Faegala almost became a Sister. However, it wasn’t until August 18, 2011 that she declared her aspirancy.

Sister Faegala completed her novice project, H8’s A DRAG…Love Is Bully-Free, on April 20, 2012. From this event the Music City Sisters established a LGBTQIF youth grant fund that serves marginalized youth and children. The OASIS Center Street Outreach Program was one of the first to benefit from this fund.

“Our LGBTQI youth are the future of our community. They deserve to be safe to explore, grow, and live without fear. We showcase and celebrate success in the wake of obstacles; support our local groups to eradicate hate crimes and bullying in our LGBTQI youth population,” said Sister Faegala.

Sister Faegala strongly supports what she calls “the global sisterhood.” During the earliest stages of her involvement, members of other houses took her under their wings. She wants to share similar experiences with up-and-coming sisters so that they too can experience the global community.

When sisters elevate to full profession, their House gives them a mirror. Fully professed sisters wear the mirror and hold it up to the community in order to affirm its beautiful reflection. Sister Faegala does this without thought. She constantly deflects attention away from herself and onto others as she lifts them up and affirms them, much as a mirror reflects and redirects a light.

Faegala’s ministry functions as a mirror in yet another way. If you are ever feeling lonely when you’re out at a club or in a bar, look for Sister Faegala. Not only will she hone in on you as if you’re the only person in the world at that moment, but she also will introduce you to all the people around her. No one is alone when Sister Faegala is in the House!
