Candlelight Vigil in Rememberance of those Affected by Bullying

Candlelight Vigil

Candlelight Vigil

The recent suicides by teenagers who had been bullied and/or harassed for being perceived to be gay has disturbed the GLBT

community to it’s core. How is it gay and lesbian adults are out living life, liberty, and pursuing happiness, yet these children have been left behind. Following PREVENTING GAY BULLYING AND SUICIDES, the informational session about suicide in the GLBTQI population, the Music City Sisters will lead a candle light vigil along Church Street. We ask anyone concerned about the hostile isolation so many GLBTQI youth endure in Tennessee to join us to remember those who did not survive.

The Music City Sisters will be located at OutCentral, 1709 Church St, Nashville at 8:00pm to start the Vigil.  Please join us to show your support!  If you have a candle, please bring it, though we will have extras to hand out as needed.  We will walk past Tribe, up to the Musica Statue, located at the intersection of 17th Ave and Division, then will walk back down to Church Street.  The walk is less than a mile long, and water is being provided by Blue Genes.

Co-Sponsors of this event include OutCentral Cultural Center, Outloud! Books and Gifts, PFLAG Nashville, and Tennessee Equality Project.

Update

The Vigil was an amazing event – we’re so glad to have brought so many people out in remembrance of such events.  Some photos from the event:
